Scene Work The Chicago Way – Jonathan Pitts

Chicago is famous for grounded, honest, relationship-based improvisation scene work that produces deep laughs and deep sighs as the audience is moved to both. This style of work requires acting, listening, openness, patience, and responding through a shared process of give and take. This workshop will feature a deep dive into this process of two-person scene work that will bring improvisers discovery upon discovery. As those shared discoveries pile up, the improvised scene becomes deep, full and funny. It’s the Chicago way.

Improv Experience: At least 6 months prior improv experience or training.

About Jonathan Pitts

Jonathan Pitts is an award-winning international improviser and storyteller. He’s taught and/or performed in 30 countries and over 110 cities. He’s the co-founder of the Chicago Improv Festival and he produced or co-produced CIF for its entire 20-year run. He also created and produced the College Improv Tournament, Chicago Podcast Festival, and Teen Comedy Fest. He’s created, devised, and directed productions of “The Oracle”, “The Silent Movie”, and “Storybox”. The 2024 book “50 Key Improv Performers” written by Matt Fotis, lists him as #24. He taught at The Second City for 16 years and is a contributing writer to their book on improv. He also was a member of “Stone Soup”, one of iO’s first house teams.
